Our eLearning courses are designed to improve your information searching and social media skills by delivering bite-sized learning to your desktop.  Please note that these materials may not work or display correctly on mobile devices.

*For courses that require registration please note:

  • Once you register for a course you can use the same access details to login to all our courses that require registration whenever you wish.
  • Our courses are divided into units enabling you to select only those units you wish to focus on.
  • You don’t have to complete a course or unit in one session.  Your progress will be automatically saved so you can return to a course later and pick up where you left off.
  • If you do complete all the units in a course you can print a certificate of achievement.

10 Things An online self-directed course developed by the Scottish Government Library.  The aim is for you to spend a little time each week developing your social media and information searching skills.  This course runs for 10 weeks.

*Beyond Google for non-Scottish Government staff In this course you will discover how to find and search quality resources to find the information Google can’t. This course should take about 45 minutes to complete.  Register here.

*Beyond Google for Scottish Government staff In this course you will discover how to find and search quality resources available to Scottish Government staff to find the information Google can’t. This course should take about 1 hour to complete.  Register here.

Go Google! (swf)  Requires Flash Player 10 or higher
Go Google! aims to give you some top tips to help you get the most from your Google searching.  This course should take about 15 minutes to complete.  If you complete this course we recommend our Beyond Google course.

*Government Secure Collaborative Tools: Knowledge Hub, SharePoint, Huddle and more This course explores the range of government secure collaborative tools government and public sector staff can use to work together. This course should take about 1 hour to complete.  Register here.

*Keeping up-to-date: searches, alerts and social media In this course you will discover how to find and search key resources to keep you up-to-date in your subject area. This course should take about 1 hour to complete.  Register here.

*Open Collaborative Tools: Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, Yammer, social bookmarking and more This course explores the range of open collaborative tools everyone can use to work together. This course should take about 1 hour to complete.  Register here.

*RSS (newsfeeds) and Dashboards: automatic updates from blogs and websites This course will help you to keep up-to-date with your favourite websites and introduce you to dashboards to help you monitor your favourite websites and social media all in one page. This course should take about 30 minutes to complete.  Register here.

*Twitter This course will provide you with information on how to use Twitter effectively. This course should take about 30 minutes to complete.  Register here.
